Top Tips for a Healthy Summer Smile

Summer is the best time to enjoy outside activities and have fun in the sun, but don’t forget about your oral health care. Turning to sugary drinks and foods to quench your thirst and cool you down can affect both your oral health and your overall health.

Going on a hike or working outside in the sun? Switch your drink to water that’s infused with fruit or vegetables. Water flavored with fruits like strawberries and oranges provides the same great taste, but with natural sugars that are better for your teeth and body.

Another great way to cool down this summer is to snack on foods with calcium — like milk, yogurt and cheese — to help promote healthy teeth and bones, and reduce the risk of tooth loss. Ice cream is a fun treat to beat the heat, but look for sugar-free or low-sugar varieties to protect your teeth from added sugar.

And, don’t forget to brush for two minutes twice a day and floss regularly to keep your smile shining bright!
